GI certified Bhalia wheat from Gujarat shipped to Kenya, Lanka

The 1st cargo of Geographical Indicator (GI) accredited Bhalia assortment of wheat was exported on Wednesday to Kenya and Sri Lanka from Gujarat.

The GI accredited wheat has significant protein material and is sweet in taste. The crop is grown typically across Bhal location of Gujarat, together with Ahmedabad, Anand, Kheda, Bhavanagar, Surendranagar, Bharuch districts.

The exceptional attribute of the wheat assortment is that grown in rainfed circumstances and cultivated in about two lakh hectares in Gujarat.

The Bhalia assortment of wheat gained GI certification in July, 2011. The registered proprietor of GI certification is the Anand Agricultural University, Gujarat.

This is expected to give raise wheat exports, reported a push launch from the Agricultural and Processed Meals Products’ Authority o India (APEDA).

In 2020-21, wheat exports witnessed a substantial expansion of 808 per cent atto ₹4,034 crore from ₹444 crore in the former fiscal. In US dollar terms, the exports rose by 778 per cent to $ 549 million.

India exported significant quantity of grain to 7 new countries – Yemen, Indonesia, Bhutan, Philippines, Iran, Cambodia and Myanmar through 2020-21.

In the former fiscal several years, only small quantities of wheat were exported to these countries.
