Haitians Hoping to Reach U.S. Stranded in Chile, Across Americas

SANTIAGO, Chile—The conservative applicant in Sunday’s presidential runoff vote, José Antonio Kast, has pledged to block what he calls a migrant invasion must he earn the election. His leftist opponent, Gabriel Boric, states if he turns into president of Chile, he will end deportations of illegal migrants and present foreigners a path to legalize their standing.

The election will have significant implications for the tens of countless numbers of Haitians who now reside in Chile right after fleeing their region in recent yrs. It will also have consequences for the Biden administration, which was confused in September with an influx of Haitians on the U.S. border who experienced abandoned Chile right after facing hostile circumstances.
