State Department Names Five Chinese Media Outlets as Foreign Missions in U.S.

WASHINGTON—The Trump administration is heightening scrutiny of China’s big condition-owned media retailers in the U.S., designating them as overseas missions, in a even more effort to rein in Chinese governing administration exercise.

The Condition Division mentioned Tuesday that the U.S. operations of five Chinese news organizations—Xinhua News Agency, China Radio Intercontinental, China World wide Television Community and the distributors of China Day-to-day and People’s Daily—will be deemed overseas missions.
